Dr. Rizal is a Stanford School of Medicine graduate who did her residency at Harvard in the Emergency Medicine Department. With the World Health Organization in the Philippines, she created new partnerships between city governments and public/private health clinics to improve Hepatitis B vaccination rates among newborns. She also launched a national HIV Awareness Campaign in the Philippines. Additionally, she worked full-time at a healthcare consulting firm, advising pharmaceutical companies about marketing strategies and business development. She is passionate about mentoring and advising students.
Clara Sun is a second year medical student at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Miami - Florida with a double major in Economics & Neuroscience. She is passionate about healthcare economics, medical startups, and hopes to get her MBA in the future. She is also passionate about helping premed students on their unique journeys to medical school, which is why she started her Instagram account @the.medisun.blog. She encourages followers to DM her for advice and access her free premed and MCAT guides through her account.
Maani is a MD-PhD Candidate at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. After going through the medical school application process himself, he is very knowledgeable about the what admissions officers want to see on students' applications.
Dr. Ken Wong is Program Director for the Healthcare Decision Analysis and Biopharmaceutical degree programs. His research interests include innovations in drug pricing and reimbursement and the impact of health systems and care processes on patient outcomes in chronic disease care management.
Ryan is a recent graduate, who majored in MIMG and Biology. He has been in Medical Friends since Fall quarter 2017 of freshman year and was the former club president. Ryan recently finished his research in melanoma at the Center for Health Sciences and David Geffen. He has interned at a physical therapy office, optometrist office, and worked at Ronald Reagan as well as Long Beach Hospital. He used to volunteer at NKLA, a no kill shelter for animals and he tutored students as a member of California Teach. As a way to relieve stress, Ryan enjoys going to the beach, surfing, playing volleyball, and video games. Ryan is currently working at an accounting firm and shadowing at Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital while studying for the MCAT.
Chris is a recent graduate from UCLA with a Biology degree. During his time at UCLA, he participated in a variety of volunteer organizations that work with children including TEACH at UCLA and China Care Bruins! He is currently scribing at multiple urgent care clinics while also shadowing orthopedic surgeons around LA. Despite the current situation, Chris wants everyone to remember to stay safe and healthy!
Dr. Keith Norris, MD, PhD, is Professor of Medicine, UCLA Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research. Dr. Keith C. Norris is an internationally respected clinician scientist and health policy leader who has helped shape national kidney disease policy and clinical practice standards. He has made significant contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion while tackling modern societal inequities. He has also been one of the most funded National Institute of Health (NIH) researchers in the nation, especially in the areas of chronic kidney disease and health disparities.
Dr. W. Scott Comulada's work focuses on using long-term data to analyze the impacts of mental health, substance use, exercise, and more. He has extensive experience in developing methods for analyzing HIV, mental health, substance use etc.. Dr. Comulada is also an Associate Professor-in-residence with the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and the Co-Director of the Methods Core for the Center for HIV Prevention, Identification, and Treatment Services (CHIPTS), and the Analytic Core Project Lead for an Adolescent Trials Network (ATN) U19.
